Story.
Washington, DC’s The Southern Ocean has a sound simultaneously evoking sadness and hope, mourning and optimism. They play a brand of alternative rock that fuses elements of energetic emo and atmospheric post-rock.
The Southern Ocean started as the basement solo project of vocalist/guitarist Jeremiah Prevatte (A Perfect Kiss, Age Sixteen) with the debut record Hu in 2014 as a Flesh + Bone Records digital release. He then sought a band of experienced indie rock musicians to bring his recordings to life, forming a lineup comprising guitarist/vocalist Ian Stanford (Always the Runner, Yesferatu), and drummer Charles Tomlinson (Code Name Juan).
The Southern Ocean self-released a follow-up EP, The Essence of Absence, in 2017 and has recorded a new EP scheduled for release in 2020.
